Baby is safely inside the uterus. It grows from a single cell into a body of millions of cells over nine months. The baby is cushioned by a bag of water in which it floats. The baby is delivered through the birth canal which is formed after the labour starts. The contractions happen in upper part which forces the baby into lower part that dilates into a birth canal. So quality contractions are necessary to form a good and wide canal to accomodate the baby.
The Sweet Pains
Pains of labour are sweet pains, as each surge of contraction brings your baby closer to you. The pains are felt in the lower back and thighs and remember these are necessary to help your child come out safely. Modern obstetrics is capable of helping you lessen the pain with the help of epidural anaesthesia which is given after the labour sets in. Deep breathing when contractions comes in and resting between contractions eases the sweet ordeal.
FORMATION OF BIRTH CANAL
ASSESMENT OF PROGRESSION OF NORMAL DELIVERY IS DONE BY INTERNAL EXAMINATION DURING LABOUR TO NOTE THE DILATATION OF CERVIX AND LEVEL OF DESCENT OF HEAD OF THE BABY IN RELATION TO THE BONY LANDMARKS OF THE PELVIC BONE.
